Celebrating Big Ideas on Kid Inventors Day: How TinkRworks at Apple Helps Young Minds Create

Happy Kid Inventors Day—a day dedicated to honoring children’s creativity, curiosity, and big ideas. At Apple Montessori Schools, it's the perfect opportunity to highlight a program that brings invention to life every day... TinkRworks!

Children are natural inventors. They ask questions, imagine new possibilities, and aren’t afraid to try (and try again!). Through TinkRworks, we give students the tools, time, and encouragement to turn those ideas into real creations.

What Is TinkRworks?

TinkRworks is Apple’s hands-on innovation and design program (completely optional, and intended for ages 4+) that blends creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Rooted in Montessori principles, the program invites children to explore how things work, experiment with materials, and design solutions through meaningful, open-ended projects.

Rather than following step-by-step instructions, students are encouraged to:

  • Think creatively and independently
  • Collaborate with peers
  • Test ideas and learn from mistakes
  • Build confidence in their own problem-solving abilities
Learning Through Exploration and Innovation

In TinkRworks, children may design structures, explore simple machines, experiment with technology, or create something entirely new. The focus isn’t on the final product—it's on the process. Children learn that challenges are opportunities, that mistakes are part of learning, and that their ideas matter.

These experiences help develop skills that go far beyond the classroom, including resilience, collaboration, and creative thinking—skills that today’s children will carry into the future.

Every Child Can Be an Inventor

Kid Inventors Day reminds us that innovation doesn’t start in adulthood—it begins in childhood, when imagination is limitless. Programs like TinkRworks help nurture that inventive spirit by honoring children’s natural curiosity and empowering them to explore the world around them.

At Apple Montessori Schools, we’re proud to create environments where young inventors feel inspired, supported, and excited to learn—on Kid Inventors Day and every day.

In our TinkRworks program, students who sign up are given the chance to explore four unique projects throughout the school year, each with a tech and art component. Projects are hands-on and involve both physical building and digital coding. Each child receives their own kit and uses a Chromebook to program their creations. At the end of each project, students take their completed work home and can continue learning via the TinkrWorks online platform.
