Sometimes the Best Decision Is a Second Decision

Choosing a school is one of the biggest decisions parents make. Every family wants to find the place where their child will feel happy, supported, challenged, and excited to learn.

But what happens if the path you choose isn't the right fit?

For one Apple Montessori Schools family, the answer was simple: trust your instincts—and remember that it's never too late to make a change.

A Place That Felt Like Home

When her daughter first joined Apple Montessori in Wayne in 2022, she wasn't just looking for a preschool. Like many families emerging from the uncertainty of the pandemic, she wanted a place where her child would feel safe, loved, and cared for.

From the moment they walked through the doors, they found exactly that.

"It felt like home."

Their classroom quickly became more than just a place to learn. It became a community. Lifelong friendships were formed, trusted relationships with teachers grew, and Apple became a true second home.

A New Chapter

After Pre-K, the family made a decision many parents consider. With their beloved teacher retiring, they decided to explore public school for Kindergarten and beyond.

Like every parent, they hoped they were making the right choice.

But after several months, something didn't feel right.

As an educator herself, this parent carefully watched her daughter—and listened.

She noticed her daughter becoming disengaged. School became a struggle instead of something she looked forward to.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

When her mother explained she was looking for another school, her five-year-old daughter responded: "If you find the school, can I go now?"

For this family, that was all they needed to hear.

Returning to What They Knew

As they explored different schools, one thought kept coming back.

"Why not go back to Apple?"

They already knew the teachers. They knew the community. Most importantly, they knew their daughter had once loved learning there.

Within minutes of reaching out, Apple welcomed them back with open arms.

"When we walked back in," her mother recalls, "everyone was so happy to see her."

The transition they had worried about never really happened.

"People ask what the mid-year transition was like. Honestly...there wasn't one. She walked right back into her routines."

Because for her daughter, Apple still felt like home.

Learning That Grows With the Child

One of the biggest differences the family noticed was the freedom their daughter had to continue growing at her own pace.

Instead of waiting for the rest of the class to catch up, she could explore concepts that interested her, challenge herself with new material, and continue building the confidence she'd developed during her early years at Apple.

Her mother credits much of her daughter's strong academic foundation to her Montessori experience—and appreciated that Apple continued to nurture that curiosity after she returned.

Whether she wanted to strengthen a challenging skill or dive deeper into reading, Apple gave her the opportunity to keep moving forward.

More importantly, learning became joyful again.

"The tantrums stopped. She was excited to go back to school."

Trust Your Child. Trust Yourself.

Perhaps the most meaningful part of this family's story isn't that they came back to Apple. It's the reminder that parents don't have to feel locked into one decision.

As this Apple parent shared:

"Parenting is hard, and you never know if you're making the right decision for your kid or your family. Every child's journey is different...trust your gut and know that no decision is permanent. You can always change it based on what your child needs."

That's advice we believe every parent deserves to hear.

Every child learns differently. Every family has unique priorities. The "right" school is the one where your child feels confident, engaged, challenged, and happy to learn.

Sometimes, that means taking a second look.

And that's okay.
