Apple Montessori Schools Celebrate International Day of Peace
On September 21st, in celebration of International Day of Peace, Apple Montessori Schools’ more than 1,200 teachers, co-teachers, and students gathered virtually via Zoom and from their respective classrooms to sing, “Light a Candle for Peace.” Not did this beautiful moment give us the chance to reinforce Apple’s mission of fostering community, but the lessons of this day also build upon our curriculum of creating socially responsible citizens through peace education.
Our children gave a “Peace Pledge” stating: “I will seek out opportunities to build peace and make a positive difference in my school and community.”
This pledge could not be more poignant with this year’s Peace Day theme “Shaping Peace Together” to spread compassion and hope in the face of the current pandemic. As we continue to nurture our children into self-aware and wonderfully well-rounded young people, it was beautiful to see each child raise their voices for peace.
Throughout our curriculum, Apple Montessori students are encouraged to use their unique gifts and knowledge to better the world around them, not just on the International Day of Peace, but every day.
“Peace is what every human being is craving for, and it can be brought about by humanity through the child.” – Dr. Maria Montessori
